CÉSAR OROZCO 03.14.19
PERSONNEL
One of the most wonderful aspects of this series is that whichever act takes the stage, one doesn't entirely know what to expect. Tonight's performance was no exception. From the very first note of this evening's performance, one thing was glaringly obvious: we were in for a treat! The quartet played with intensity and passion; there were many moments that made the observer marvel at what was taking place. César Orozco's playing was absolutely phenomenal, and his energy behind the piano was infectious. He was electric, swaying feverishly to the tempo. The rhythms of bassist Gabriel Vivas, conguero Roberto Quintero and drummer Pablo Bencid were tremendously in accord. The bass tone was low and frenetic without being the least bit overwhelming. The conga drums were high in the mix and were played with great sophistication. It was unbelievable how full a sound was emanating from the four musicians.
Simply masterful.
Roberto Quintero played with warmth and true feel.
One of my favorite photos from the series.
Bassist Gabriel Vivas proving once and for all that bigger is indeed better.
The pocket takes shape.
Drummer Pablo Bencid
The right flavor.
Hit it and quit...
One of the absolutely finest musicians the series has showcased... and that's saying a mouthful.
Rhythm on display.
