LIZ ROSA 09.27.18
PERSONNEL
Bossa Nova had an enormous impact on America popular jazz in the 1950's and 60's, and the audience at Zinc Bar was given a fantastic showcase of it. Liz Rosa and her band brought a component that the Dangerous Rhythms series has yet to fully realize: the power of the female vocalist. Rosa's range and magnetic stage presence were on full display as she dedicated her show to the magnificent canon of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Her banter and vivacious moves on stage were absolutely infectious. The full Brazilian ensemble was intimate and beautifully captured the warmth and sophistication of the work, but in an entirely playful and energetic way. Pianist Marcelo Miranda's playing was seemingly effortless... gorgeous! The bass and drums were smooth as glass. It truly felt like a family affair where everyone's contributions lent to and were supporting the depth of the selections.
The masterminds: Carlini and T.J. English (aka Lee Van Cleef III) waiting in the wings.
Liz takes the stage!
The calm before the storm... this dynamic performance ran that gamut!
Feeling the spirit of Jobim.
It was hard to sit still when this was happening 10 feet away.
Bassist Eduardo Belo and drummer Vanderlei Pereira set the tone.
The fantastic Marcelo Miranda was the true glue to the evening's show.
Grand and powerful, Liza Rosa's performance was a ball of energy with true grace.
Love this shot
The house brought down.
