The Days in the Night band took the stage for their tribute show to the venerable Mongo Santamaria and set the house on fire. An absolutely stellar group of decorated veteran musicians lead by drummer Robby Ameen, the program was a heavy dose of jazz with the Latin flavor provided by master congeuro Román Díaz and pianist Edsel Gomez. The brass comprised of Lynch and Herwig were a great compliment to the rhythmic gymnastics executed by Ameen. And Goines' steady and groovy bottom filled out the frenetic pace of the show. This one was one of those nights where the crowd's spontaneous appreciation was on full display... much to the band's delight! GREAT energy in the room.

The definition of cool: Congeuro extraordinaire Román Díaz
Drummer and band leader Robby Ameen primed and ready pre-show.
Off to the races!
Edsel Gomez's playing was tremendous... a "full body" player that swayed and moved on the bench with the rhythm of the band. A treat for sure!
Quite the figure... EASILY the tallest member on the bandstand I've yet to see, trombonist Conrad Herwig brought the noise with his horn.
Lynch, Herwig and bassist Lincoln Goines (I swear he's back there).
Brian Lynch making his horn sing.
Dangerous Rhythms indeed... Ameen and Díaz at FULL Throttle!!
Trumpeter Brian Lynch... impromptu between sets.
